I've always had trouble sleeping, and could lie awake for hours...needing earplugs, every ray of light blocked out of the room, and still sleep doesn't come! Once I stayed awake for 2 whole days because I couldn't sleep on a long haul flight...I've tried everything...warm baths, warm drinks, lavender pillows, making sure I'm really tired and kept myself active all day, reading before bed...nothing works....and then I got some sleeping pills from the Dr, and they work a treat! But i don't want to rely on pills for sleep....does anyone have any suggestions that they have tried?

Hi Coraliee, My name is Danielle and I am a Naturopath with Blackmores. I can understand what it is like to lay in bed, staring at the clock, the ceiling, the wall….It affects all other areas of your life! However you are not alone, there are many other insomniacs out there. You can find some great hints to help you sleep at the Blackmores website via the following link www.blackmoresnz.co.nz/health-topics/insomnia, and more in the “Related Information’ section on the right side of this page. Blackmores also has a range of products that may be helpful such as Blackmores Sleep Sound, read more at www.blackmores.com.au/.../sleep-sound-formula.

For myself, I find exercise is the key. It is the best stress buster, and it just seems to work out the tension and stress that can affect my sleep. And if all else fails, I try to spend some quiet time in my back yard hammock before going to bed. Maybe it’s the gentle rocking, but it is so relaxing.

Hope these suggestions help, sweet dreams

D

My sister has trouble sleeping so she takes the sleep sound formula - http://www.blackmoresnz.co.nz/products/sleep-sound - I usually sleep like a baby... but when I dont... I count sheep :)
